Fibers Oxidizing
While preparing for an upcoming show centered around isolation, I decided to try my hand at shibori dyeing with natural indigo. Indigo only bonds to fabric when isolated from oxygen molecules. Shibori is the process of tightly binding fabrics to produce beautiful resist patterns. I spent a few afternoons folding and dying fabrics for some exciting results.
I have been thinking about applying printmaking strategies to my ceramics for a while now but have yet to choose a pattern that I want to use extensively enough to print some decals. I finally designed an all over beetle pattern that I plan on incorporating into some slab built canisters in the near future. I also want to explore using tessellating patterns on the surface of various forms.
